This helmet (1) is any of my preferred props, I think its current function explains well the ideas of Alchemius about war and violence. With its dents and rusty scratches (2), It seems to talk about a defeated knight who has wanted to capture Tip and Trick and has run into Alchemius. doesn’t it?
When I created this environment I had the chance to deliver many informations about the life style of the main characters and I really loved to pay attention to details, such as the dust settle on the books cover (3).
Inside Tip’s House, there are so many candles, that I needed a clever approach to render the wax and its translucent look, avoiding a long render time.
We didn’t want to use any sub-surface scattering algorithms because they are render time consuming, so I decided to simulate the translucency with a very simple trick: a gradient bitmap projected onto the “luminosity” channel of the material.
Simple and effective!
